Be it flood, fire, landslide, or other disasters; evacuations can save you and your family’s lives. Here’s what you can do to prepare:
1. Discuss and develop an evacuation plan with the whole family.

Everyone should know where to go immediately after evacuation. In case family members get separated, they can find each other at the location that has been agreed upon during this discussion.
2. Turn off electricity from the main circuit breaker box before leaving.

This will help prevent electrocution during floods. Ensure all family members are aware of that risk and know how to turn off the electricity to the house.
3. Have a grab-and-go bag ready.

In a waterproof bag, pack some chargers, batteries, and power banks along with a flashlight. For food, choose non-perishable ones that can be opened easily, and pack bottles of mineral water. Important documents like insurance papers and identification can be packed too. Include some cash, first aid, sanitary and comfort items as well.
4. Inform friends and relatives.

Once you have an evacuation plan established, inform some friends and relatives of it so they know where to find you if communication is lost during an emergency.
5. Get extra insurance.

Find out about the different types of home insurance policies as some cover natural disasters, fires, thefts, and others. Make sure to read and understand the policies thoroughly before purchasing to avoid disputes in the future when the need to claim arises.
