While it mostly depends on how close you are to the bride or groom and their families, this guide can give you a rough idea if you’re completely clueless!
Chinese Wedding
Venue is a huge consideration when it comes to deciding how much to give. A more accurate calculation would be to take the cost of the table and divide it between the number of guests at the table. We know it can be a lot to find out what the updated banquet rates are, so here’s an estimate to help you!
Chinese restaurants: RM100 and above
Non-5 star hotels: RM150 and above
5 star hotels: RM200 and above
Malay Wedding

The same estimate can be used if the wedding is to be held at hotels. However, most Malay receptions are done at home or a hall with a buffet-style meal. In that case anything from RM10 to RM200 or more is an acceptable amount, depending on how close you are with the family. Gifts like household items are also acceptable!
Indian Wedding

While it’s uncommon to bring gifts to an Indian wedding, money-filled envelopes are always welcomed. Venue too plays a part here when it comes to how much to give.
Temples: RM51 and above
Event spaces or hotels: RM101 and above
Amounts ending with “1” are preferred because it is believed to be an auspicious number.
